Achieving a flawless makeup look may seem like a daunting task, but with the right tools, techniques and products, it can be easily achieved. In this blog, I will walk you through the steps to create a flawless makeup look that will leave you feeling confident and beautiful. Always keep in mind that despite what you see or read on social media in regard to makeup tips, you can alter and change up your look to suit what suits you best.

1. Prep and Prime: The key to flawless makeup that lasts, begins with a clean and well-prepped canvas. Begin by cleansing your face and applying a moisturizer suitable for your skin type. Follow up with a primer to create a smooth base for your makeup to help it last throughout the day. Make sure to remove your makeup at the end of the day too!

2. Foundation: Choose a foundation that suits your skin tone and apply it evenly using a brush, sponge, or your fingers depending on the level of coverage you prefer. A brush will give you the lightest coverage as it absorbs a lot of the product, followed by a sponge which also absorbs excess product, then fingers which creates the most coverage. Blend it well into your skin, paying attention to areas that need more coverage. For a flawless finish, opt for a lightweight, buildable formula that will even out your skin tone without looking heavy. If you do not like the idea of fully covering your face with foundation, you can concentrate smaller amounts in the centre of your face by dotting your nose, forehead, chin and a bit on your cheeks and lightly blend it toward the outer regions of your face, diffusing the coverage as you go. This creates a more natural finish, and if you use a slightly lighter shade, you can create the illusion of a more contoured look without all the effort.

3. Concealer: To hide any imperfections such as dark circles, blemishes, or redness, apply a concealer that matches your skin tone or is slightly lighter. Use a small brush or your fingertips to dab the concealer onto the problem areas and blend it seamlessly into your foundation. I like to apply the concealer and leave it for a minute to dry out before blending it in, that way it has time to dry, creating a more dense, rich and pigmented coverage. If you blend it while it is wet it has less staying power, and tends to wipe away easier.

4. Set with Powder: To ensure your makeup stays in place and lasts longer, set it with a translucent powder. Use a large fluffy brush or powder puff to lightly dust the powder over your face, focusing on areas that tend to get oily, such as the T-zone. This step will help control shine and give your skin a smooth, matte finish. If you are more mature you can skip the powder step as it can make the skin look more dry and aged as it settles into more textured areas, enhancing them. My trick is to rely on the powdery products such as blush, bronzer and contour to help set the makeup as i go, and use a mattifying, oil control setting spray to finish.

5. Define Your Brows: Well-groomed eyebrows can make a huge difference in framing your face and enhancing your overall makeup look. Use an eyebrow pencil, brow gel or powder to fill in any sparse areas and create a defined shape. Try to avoid over extending the brows downward at the edges as this can make the eyes and face appear droopy. As well, try to diffuse the colour out to a lighter application as you reach the inner part of your brows...think ombre brows. Brush through your brows with a spoolie brush to blend the product and achieve a natural look.

6. Eye Makeup: For a flawless eye makeup look, start by applying an eyeshadow primer to prevent creasing and help your eyeshadow colors pop. Choose shades that complement your eye color and blend them seamlessly onto your eyelids. Add depth and dimension by applying a slightly darker shade to the outer corners and crease. Finish off with a coat of mascara to lengthen and volumize your lashes.

7. Blush and Highlight: Add a natural-looking flush to your cheeks by applying a blush that suits your skin tone. Smile and apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks, blending it upwards towards your temples. To enhance your features and achieve a radiant glow, apply a highlighter to the high points of your face, such as the cheekbones, brow bone, and the bridge of your nose. For a dewier finish, or for more mature skin I like to use cream blushes and highlights as they add moisture are less drying and give that additional radiant boost the skin needs.

8. Perfect Your Lips: Complete your flawless makeup look by choosing a lipstick shade that complements your overall look, and makes you feel fabulous! Whether you prefer a bold red, a soft nude, or a vibrant pink, apply the lipstick evenly to your lips using a lip brush or directly from the bullet. For a long-lasting finish, blot your lips with a tissue and reapply another layer of lipstick.

Remember, when it comes to makeup practice makes perfect, so don't be afraid to experiment with different colours, textures, techniques and products to find what works best for you. With these tips and tricks, you'll be well on your way to achieving a flawless makeup look that will turn heads wherever you go.
